CHURCH TIMELINE

1902. The parish is founded by Rev. Geza Messerschmidt.

            First Baptism: Elizabeth Berki, December 25th.

1903. First marriage: Karoly Molnar and Maria Krivda, January 18th.

            Groundbreaking, June 21st.

1904. Church completed and consecrated, August 21st.

1911. Rev. Janos Schimko becomes the pastor.

1913. Rev. Louis Kovacs becomes the pastor.

1915. Rev. Joseph Marczinko becomes the pastor.

1932. Rev. James Raile becomes the pastor.

1933. Rev. William Furlong becomes the administrator (until 1937).

            Rev. Janos Gaspar sees to the pastoral needs of the parish.

1936. The cornerstone of the school and auditorium is laid, September.

1937. The auditorium and school are dedicated, March 15th and September 19th respectively.

            Rev. Janos Gaspar becomes the pastor.

1940. Acquisition of the convent.

1945. New heating system installed.

1946. Redecoration of the school.

1947. New floor in the church.

1948. New pews and lighting system.

1949. New Stations of the Cross.

1950. New rectory.

1952. New addition to the school.

1953. The fire-damaged school is rebuilt.

1956. Hungarian Revolution on October 23rd brings many refugee parishioners.

1958. Liberty Bell is dedicated.

1963. The parish mourns the death of Rev. Janos Gaspar, February 21st.

            Rev. Anthony Dunay becomes the pastor.

1974. The parish welcomes Cardinal Joseph Mindszenty of Hungary, May 19th.

1977. The parish mourns the death of Rev. Anthony Dunay, May 29th.

            Rev. John Cusack becomes the administrator.

1978. Rev. Bela Torok becomes the pastor.

            The parish celebrates its 75th anniversary.

1987. The auditorium burns down

1989. The parish welcomes Cardinal Laszlo Paskay of Hungary, September 28th.

1990. The auditorium is reopened.

            Rev. Stephen Mustos becomes the pastor.

1991. The Parish Council is founded.

            The convent is refurbished and welcomes Hungarian children stricken with heart disease.

1994. The parish celebrated its 90th anniversary, December 3rd.

1995. The organ is restored.

1996. The parish has its first organ concert.

1998. The parish celebrates its 95th anniversary, November 22nd.

2000. The parish welcomes Cardinal Laszlo Paskay of Hungary, November 4th.

2001. The Laszlo Iranyi Memorial Library is opened in the basement of the church.

2003. The parish celebrated its 100th anniversary, April 27th.
