ST. STEPHEN'S ENGLISH ROSARY SOCIETY
On May 10, 1955, a group of 14 women met with Father Roger Hebert at St. Stephen's Magyar R.C. Church to form a society to the devotion of our Blessed Mother which later was named St. Stephen's English Rosary Society.
The first officers were:
Mrs. Stephen Cooper -- President
Mrs. Joseph Ruppert -- Vice President
Mrs. Joseph Szott -- Secretary
Mrs. Andrew Doychak -- Treasurer
The purpose of the society is a spiritual devotion to the Blessed Mother and socially to strengthen the ties of the parish women and financially to help towards the upkeep of the parish.
From 1955 to 1978 the moderators were Father Roger Hebert, Father Joseph Cassidy and Father John Cusack.
RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES
Mass or benediction before meetings, sermon by the moderator, monthly communion by members, daily recitation of the rosary, annual communion breakfast, working for The Cancer Society, helping The Little Sisters of the Poor, and visiting sick members.
SOCIAL AND FINANCIAL ACTIVITIES
Funds are raised to meet our financial obligations by social activities such as cake sales, card parties, bus rides, dinner-dances, Bergen Mall Festival Booths, Chinese auctions and calendar parties. Members also participate in all parish activities.
One of the society's most enjoyable events is the annual Christmas party held for its members and friends.
